Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: Can I attend a pelvic floor physiotherapy session if I have my period?A: Yes, you can absolutely attend a pelvic floor physiotherapy session during your period. Menstruation is a normal part of life. If you feel comfortable, there is absolutely no need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
-
Q: What does a pelvic floor internal examination involve?A: At Coreology Physiotherapy Clinic, a pelvic floor internal examination involves a detailed and professional assessment conducted by a specialized pelvic health physiotherapist. The examination is designed to evaluate the strength, function, and coordination of the pelvic floor muscles. Initially, your physiotherapist will take a comprehensive medical history to understand any symptoms you might be experiencing. They will explain the procedure thoroughly, ensuring you feel comfortable and informed. The internal examination involves the physiotherapist gently inserting a gloved, lubricated finger into the vaginal or rectal canal to palpate the pelvic floor muscles. This allows them to assess muscle tone, endurance, and detect any areas of pain or tension. Based on these findings, a personalized treatment plan will be developed to address any dysfunctions and improve your pelvic health. Your comfort and consent are our priority throughout the process. The examination is conducted in a private setting with utmost professionalism and sensitivity to your needs.
-
Q: How do I prepare for a pelvic floor internal assessment?A: There is absolutely no need to shave or groom before an appointment. However, there are a few steps you can take to prepare for a pelvic floor internal assessment. 1. Ensure you empty your bladder prior to the appointment, as a full bladder can be uncomfortable during the assessment. 2.Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to change out of, as you may need to undress from the waist down. 3. It is also helpful to note any symptoms or specific concerns you have regarding your pelvic health to discuss with your physiotherapist. 4. Lastly, try to relax and maintain an open mind; there is nothing to feel embarrassed or worried about. If you have any specific questions or concerns before your appointment, feel free to contact us at coreologyphysiotherapy@gmail.com for further guidance.
-
Q: Is pelvic floor/prenatal physiotherapy covered by health insurance?Yes - if your insurance plan includes physiotherapy under the health benefit plan. It is recommended that you check with your insurance provider to confirm the extent of coverage.
-
Q: I am postpartum - how long should I wait before an assessment? Can I bring my baby? You can begin pelvic floor physiotherapy anywhere between 6-8 weeks post delivery. If you have concerns, please contact us or your family doctor. Yes, you are more than welcome to bring your baby along to your appointments.
